Ania Nałęcka-Milach selects My Air Force self-published by Vojtech Veškrna as Book of the Week.

" We tell stories because we find them important to share, or because we hope that sharing them will bring us a kind of relief. Some stories are told out of love.

'When I look at a flying object, I see its freedom. The tiny dot in the sky is moving fast, although it looks like it is standing still and motionless. When I compare it to the scale of Earth, it makes me think big. It makes me think without boundaries and walls through which we are bound to the ground.'  —Vojtech Veškrna My Air Force

Using first person narration, Vojtech Veškrna takes the viewer through a smooth sequence of a beautiful visual story about flying an aircraft.

Within his concise six-chapter story, there is space for dreams, science, technology, history, death and the Universe, all of which are touched with tender lightness, observed from the sky’s distance.

We go through archival drawings, blueprints and photographs, along with Veškrna’s own images, like those documenting the launch of home-made rockets or depicting a Czech fighter aircraft base. My personal darlings are the stills from a video of a jet pilot asked to show a flying maneuver with his hand, as if the hand was a plane; something Veškrna used to do as a child. One of my favorites is also the artist’s self-portrait in an Air Force pilot uniform.

Love is in the air. " —Ania Nałęcka-Milach
