photo-eye is pleased to present a book signing and artist talk for photographer Mark Edward Harris' publications North Korea, South Korea and The Way of the Japanese Bath.

NORTH KOREA and SOUTH KOREA
Award-winning photographer Mark Edward Harris photographed in the nations of South Korea, North Korea and Japan for many years. Harris presents his new book North Korea and his first book on South Korea 60 years after the signing of the armistice that stopped (but did not officially end) the Korean War. His two new publications on the two Koreas show the diverse difference between the nations. North Korea is self-published and printed in vibrant color with captions that note location and give cultural context to his documents of this closed off nation. Its sister publication, South Korea, is Harris' first look at the democratic southern neighbor.

THE WAY OF THE JAPANESE BATH
Harris' look into the nation of Japan focuses on a very specific cultural tradition stemming from the high rate of geothermal activity in this country: the ceremony of the bath. The Way of the Japanese Bath is a beautiful black and white book wrapped in black cloth with faux bone folder clips. The book opens with an reproduction of a Japanese woodcut by Toyohara Kunichika depicting a women's bathhouse in the mid 19th century and the interior images, resting opposite the titles and captions, show the ceremony of the bath in natural hot springs, bathhouses and interiors pools in regions around the country from Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Tokyo.

Mark Edward Harris' (http://www.markedwardharris.com) editorial work has appeared in publications such as Life, GEO, Conde Nast Traveler, AFAR, The Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, The London Sunday Times Travel Magazine and Playboy. His commercial clients range from Gap to Coca-Cola to Mexicana Airlines. His books include Faces of the Twentieth Century: Master Photographers and Their Work,Wanderlust, Inside North Korea, and Inside Iran. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a CLIO, ACE, Aurora Gold, IPA and Photographer of the Year at the Black & White Spider Awards.
