"About half a century ago, I used to spend most of my days wandering around in the streets of Kobe. I was just over twenty, and as I particularly liked ships and harbors, the exotic city of Kobe was for me a thrilling wonderland sort of place.

"...the city of Kobe, that pretty urban area sandwiched between the sea and the beautiful mountains with a single railway running right through it, hasn’t changed at all!"— Daido Moriyama

Moving Plants
Photographs by Watanabe Koichi

The humble Japanese knotweed, called ‘itadori’ in Japan, is native to East Asia but also notorious for its success in other parts of the world... following Koichi in his research and quest to track it down everywhere, we stray into the entanglement created by the movement of people to city capitals in the modern age, which are themselves a giant moving thicket of nature, knowledge, technology, and industry that is not only intertwined on huge scales of complexity, but also reciprocally impacting.

Mass
Photographs by Hiroshi Takizawa

Signed copies available to order!

Hiroshi Takizawa's Mass is composed of recent photographs that concentrate on new interpretations of materials such as concrete and stone: the materials used to raise buildings.

The pages are separately cut and the size of each page differs from the next, a special kind of bookbinding being applied. As a result, every page of Mass literally has a different mass, visually replicating opening up a new space every time a page is turned.
