For the photographer, a snow-laden landscape presents an opportunity for extraordinary compositions. A covering of snow transforms a mundane landscape into a canvas of sublime beauty, adding a layer of intrigue to a scene that otherwise, in a warmer month, for instance, could be overlooked.

Winter landscapes are not limited to snow scenes of course. Frost, fog, and mist are also very much features of the colder months. These phenomena can alter the landscape by simplifying elements and allowing for more minimalist images to be created.
