photo-eye Gallery was proud to open our latest exhibit Selected Works on a snowy evening last Friday in Santa Fe. Selected Works is a group show of photographic prints highlighting the diverse styles and subject matter embraced by photo-eye Gallery artists, and is the first group show in our new home in the Railyard Arts District. The exhibition includes works from fifteen different contemporary artists including Nick Brandt, Ernie ButtonColette Campbell-Jones, Keith CarterMitch DobrownerSteve FitchDavid H. GibsonJames Hajicek & Carol Panaro-SmithBear KirkpatrickMichael LevinChris McCawRaymond MeeksLaurie TümerJo Whaley and Brad Wilson. You can view a collection of installed works on our Artsy page.

This is an exciting time for photography. The proliferation of modern technology has created a myriad of forms to tell stories and illustrate ideas about human behavior, relationships, and experiences. Some artists, like Brad Wilson whose stunning Affinity series is captured with a massive 60 megapixel camera, fully embrace the digital revolution producing highly detailed pigment prints on a painting scale. Others, such as James Hajicek & Carol Panaro-Smith’s photographic drawings, resist the trend by building unique and colorful objects from a complex chemical cocktail, and in doing so reference photography’s humble beginnings. Our hope for Selected Works is to showcase the variety of images created by our featured artists and initiate a conversation regarding the thrilling state of contemporary photography.

Beginning next week and continuing for the duration of the exhibition, we will run a series of short interviews engaging the artists about their work. Our aim is to tell the story around the photograph; to share the thoughts, feelings, struggles, and victories behind the objects’ inception and production. We are excited about this exhibit and truly look forward to the ensuing conversation.

We invite you to participate as well. If you have questions about any of the work feel free to send us a message at gallery@photoeye.com or drop a comment in below, and we’ll include your thoughts in the conversation. While the installed images represent some of our favorites, it would be impossible to hang work by all of our represented artists. Here in the gallery we have hundreds of prints on hand by more than 30 different individuals and even more images available online. If a particular work catches your eye or piques your interest — reach out to us.

Selected Works is currently on view at photo-eye Gallery and will be up through mid March.
