Kittenish — SIGNED
Photographs by Tamiko Nishimura
"If I took photographs, having abandoned my identity as a woman, I think this would leave me with no sense of reality. This doesn’t mean that I take photographs with a conscious sense of being a woman; just as from birth a man is a man, without being simply a woman, for me there is no beginning." — Tamiko Nishimura

Rose
Photographs by John Kayser
John Kayser made photographs and films in California in the 1960s and 70s. His house and the streets of Los Angeles were stage for the private rituals that defined his obsession with female beauty. The women he captured on film performed at the heart of a photographic practice that remained out of sight while he was alive. Rose was his first subject.
Printed in an edition of 300.
Ampersand's previous books include Dear Martin and John Kayser's Sitting.

Sunless
Photographs by Tiane Doan na Champassak
In Sunless by Tiane Doan na Champassak, beauty is pursued across the disintegrating boundaries between male and female. The images inSunless, taken in Thailand between 2012 and 2013, form the second part of a larger body of work-in-progress, born out of a persistent urge to photographically confront questions regarding gender and sexuality.
The book highlights the different shades between what today’s society accepts as male or female, and explores what is considered the norm in terms of gender and sexuality.

Sumimasen
By IPG Project
Sumimasen questions the concept of privacy and identity through Mayura (a pornographic actress living in Tokyo). By obscuring Mayura’s face with a mask, the photographers seek to challenge the very notion of identity.
Mayura works mostly from home with multiple cameras monitoring her 24 hours a day. This footage is streamed to a website where people subscribe to watch her going about her daily life. In a time when the boundaries between private and public have been breached, it might be the privacy of our thoughts that constitutes the true and ultimately, last remaining, meaning of “privacy”.

Gerard Fieret (1924-2009)
20% off
Photographs by Gerard Fieret
Photographer and poet Gerard Fieret is the creator of one of the most wayward oeuvres put forth by 20th-century Dutch photography: erotic, egomaniacal, radical, taboo-breaking and, at times, unfathomable, but always of a staggering, albeit uneasy, beauty that can indisputably vie with the international top. The two best-known genres in Fieret's photographic work — the female nude and self-portraiture — are presented in this book alongside his street photography and children's portraits.
photo-eye Bookstore has a limited stock of Gerard Fieret (1924-2009) remaining. This title is offered used through Amazon booksellers for $100 or more. Our stock is imperfect and may contain corner bumps or scuffing to the dust jacket. We'll release these books on a first-come-first-served basis.
